OBITUARY: 
Services were held at the Calvary Presbyterian church Tuesday afternoon for Homer Virgin Hill, 71, a pioneer of Independence who passed away in Salem May 30. Rev D.V. Poling of Corvallis officiated and music was furnished by Mrs Edna Irvine accompanied by Mrs Ed M. Wunder. Long time friends acting as pall bearers were Ralph Tautfest, George Sloper, William Cockle, William Patton, William Peyree and John Storey. Mr Hill, the seventh child of Henry and Martha Hill, was born on the Henry Hill doination land claim south of Independence, September 6, 1870 and resided here all of his life. He was married in 1903 to Fannie Martin who passed away in 1937. He was prominent in stock raising, farming and hop growing and had a host of personal and business friends. Left to mourn him are three children, Martha Hill, teacher at Arlington, Oregon, Mrs Eleanor Beatty of Independence and Orville Hill of Independence; two brothers, Verde Hill of Independence and L.R. Hill of Waldport; one niece, Mrs Constance Henderson of Pendleton; three nephews, Wendell H. Denlinger of Kellog, Idaho, Clyde Hill of San Francisco and Ellis Burch of Brea, Calif, and three grandchildren.
