OBITUARY:

Glenn Ferris Purvine, July 18, 1899-Aug 2, 1992

Long Beach, Calif – Glenn Ferris Purvine, 93, died Sunday in Long Beach. A native of Zena, he was a member of the pioneer Purvine family and the great-grandson of John Purvine and Major Walter Walker, who came by covered wagon to Polk County in 1848. He lived in Salem until September of 1923, when he married Ruth E. Caldbeck in Portland. He then moved to Long Beach, but spent his summers in the Salem area. He owned a business and was active in many community affairs. He was one of the founders of the Southern California Bird Society. An owner of Arabian horses, he was an active member of the Arabian Horse Society of Southern California and the Arabian Horse International. Because of his interest in this organization, he was instrumental in the establishment of the California State College at Pomona on the original Kellogg Arabian Horse Ranch. Survivors include his wife; daughter, Mrs Leroy Christensen of San Marino, Calif; son, Bruce of Ojai, Calif; brother, Paul of Seattle; sister, Lora Purvine of Long Beach; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Private interment will be in Spring Valley Church Cemetery, Zena. Arrangements are by Rigdon-Ransom mortuary. Contributions may be made to the church.
