Lloyd McAfee, 81, of Salem died Wednesday of cancer. He was born in Malta, Mont, and lived in Los Angeles until he retired to West Salem in 1989. He served in the US Army and Merchant Marines during World War II. He worked for the Los Angeles Fire Department until his retirement in 1989. He was a Christian and enjoyed woodworking, vintage movies, story-telling, the ocean and the woods. His wife, Dorothy, whom he married in 1949, died in 1999. Survivors include his daughters, Carole McAfee and Gail Fahlman, both of Salem; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be 11 am Tuesday at Spring Valley Church at Zena Cemetery. Private interment will be in Zena Cemetery. Arrangements are by City View Funeral Home.
