1880 OR CENSUS – James H. White (66y, b Virginia, occupation farmer) enumerated with wife Francana (52y, b Virginia), 2 children, Elizabeth P. (15y, b Missouri) and Weston J. (13y, b Oregon), son-in-law Smiley Purvine (30y, b Illinois, widowed, occupation dentist) and grandson Smiley E. Purvine (4y, b Oregon)

PROBATE – Petition of May 10, 1901, regarding estate of J.H. White. He died 1887 in Polk county leaving a will. His property was to go to his widow Francinia White and after her death to their ten children, J.C. White, B.S. White, W.W. White, F.E. White, J.S. White, M.F. White, Margaret E. Purvine, Lizzie F. Starbuck, Anna Kantner and W.J. White. The widow Francinia died in 1900. By that time four of the children had died leaving children who were entitled to their parents’ shares: J.S. White left one child, Eulena White; B.S. White left two children, Millie and Seth White; Maggie E. Purvine left one child, Ellis Purvine; and F.E. White left one child, Rodney C. White.

OBITUARY: 

J. H. White a pioneer of early days and ex-member of the legislature, died yesterday in Polk county, three miles west of Salem, aged 74 years. He was buried to-day at Zena.
