"Miss Loose Wife of Mr. Vansanten
Coming as a complete surprise to their friends is the announcement of the marriage of Miss Emily Clorene Loose and John Vansanten Friday, September 9, in Dallas. The service was read at the residence of the Rev. Mr. James, pastor of the Methodist church, and immediately following, the couple left for a few days at the coast. They have returned to Salem and have taken an apartment here. They will remain in the city until October 1, when Mrs. Vansanten will take up her teaching at Bethany and Mrs. Vansanten returns to his farm at Hullt.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Vansanten are well known in this city, and they have been friends since childhood, going to the grade schools together. Mrs. Vansanten was graduated from Salem high school in 1919. Mrs. Vansanted is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Loose and Mrs. Vansanten’s parents are Mr. and MRs. E. Vansanten. Both families live near Salem".

Van Santen - Mrs. Emily, 2640 Lafayette Ave. Bremerton, Wash., died Friday, October 18, at the age of 67, in Bremerton; mother of Mrs. Vernon Greenlee, Albuquerque, N.M. and Mrs. Dale Mansfield, Bremerton, Wash.; 4 grandchildren; sister of Voorhis Loose of Eugene, Oreg., and Mrs. Jack DeJong of Sheridan, Oreg. Services will be Tuesday, October 22, 10 am, RIGDON'S COLONIAL CHAPEL, Salem.  Interment Zena Cemetery, Salem.

Mrs Emily Van Santen, 68, former longtime Salem elementary principal and teacher, died Friday in Bremerton, Wash, where she had been living since her retirement two years ago. She was born in the Brush College area northwest of Salem and served as principal at the old Rickey School on Macleay Road and at West Salem Elementary before joining the teaching staff at Four Corners Elementary. She taught first grade at that school from 1949 until retiring in 1966. A reading specialist, she was a member of the International Reading Association. Her husband John died in 1963. Surviving are daughters Mrs Betty Mansfield, Bremerton, and Mrs Peggy Greenly, Albuquerque, NM; sister Mrs Carol DeJong, Sheridan; brother V.F. Loose, Eugene. Services are pending at W.T. Rigdon mortuary.
