OBITUARY:
Mrs Harriet Strand, a resident of the Zena community northwest of Salem in her youth, died Tuesday at Milwaukie at the age of 76. Born in Michigan, Mrs Strand came to Salem at an early age to live with her grandparents, Mr and Mrs Christopher Patrick. She attended Zena school and Willamette University and taught for a time at Popcorn School west of Salem. She was the daughter of Mr and Mrs Benjamin Higgins. She leaves a widower, John H. Strand, Milwaukie; three sisters, Mrs Winnie Hume, Molalla, Mrs Irene Alleman, Long Island, NY, and Mrs Kate Arnold, Battle Creek, Mich; two brothers, J. Thomas Higgins, Zena, and Grover B. Higgins, Pompano Beach, Fla. Services will be 2 pm Friday in Barrick chapel. Burial will be in Zena Cemetery.
