OBITUARY:

Mrs Hannah E. Purvine, 805 Oak St, widely known Salem woman, died at a Salem hospital Wednesday following an illness of some time. Funeral services have been scheduled for Friday at 1:30 pm from St Paul’s Episcopal church. Mrs Purvine was born in Vancouver, Wash, December 16, 1871, the daughter of Mr and Mrs John Clausman Hileman. Her father died when she was four years old and she was reared by her mother and step-father, Dr E.Y. Chase, a Salem physician. The Chases made their home on the corner of Court and High streets, now the site of the Senator hotel. As a girl, Mrs Purvine attended Willamette university, studying music, and on October 4, 1893, she was married to Charles Dudley Purvine. For a few years the couple resided in the Lincoln community but for the past 40 years Mrs Purvine has made Salem her home. She was active in the affairs of the St Paul’s Episcopal church until failing health prevented continuing in church activities. Surviving are a son, Edwin C. (Ted) Purvine of Salem, a grandson, Richard W. Purvine, and a brother, John Hileman of Salem. Another son, Lawrence, died in 1928.
