BIOGRAPHICAL:

Accident Brings Head Injuries
SALEM (Special) - Mrs. Katherine Purdom, Hubbard, Suffered head injuries Saturday night when a car in which she was riding collided with a truck on the Pacific highway south of Salem.
She was taken to Salem Memorial hospital where her condition was reported as good.
Vehicles involved in the accident were driven by Glen A. Purdom, Jr., and M. Barber Pickens, Foster, police said.

OBITUARY: 

SALEM - Katherine H. Purdom passed away on December 4th at age 84, at the Terra Rose Care Center in Salem. Born June 22, 1923 in Rochester, New York, Katherine grew up in Trenton, New Jersey with her parents, Frances and Cloyd Hurd. She graduated from New Jersey College for Women in 1946 with a Bachelor of Letters Degree. That summer, on August 17, 1946, she married Glen A. Purdom in Chicago, Illinois. Later, she became a dedicated mother to son, Carlton A. Purdom and daughter, Margaret Jane Bodkin. She was a creative writer and made a career of it. Along with her interest in journalism, she loved to paint, weave, and to knit. She was a cat lover. She was very involved in the First Congregational Church in Salem, serving in many capacities including a moderator. After the passing of her husband Glen in 1977, she worked at Chemeketa Community College in the administration office editing and putting together the class schedule and many other publications. She also fostered an interest in photography while in this position. She is survived by her two children, Carlton Purdom and Margaret Bodkin; her brother, Richard Carlton Hurd; and her four grandchildren, Meghan Fleming, Aaron Smith, Jacob Smith, and Taylor Purdom. The memorial services will be held at the First Congregational Church on Saturday, December 29, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. The church is located 700 Marion St. NE, with Rev. Ed Henderlite officiating.
