OBITUARY: 

Ismond E. “Ike” Knapp, 88, of 5355 River Road N, died Saturday at Salem Hospital Memorial Unit. A native of Ovid, NY, he came to Salem in 1960. He was a research chemist for DuPont Co in Wilmington, Del, after graduating from college. He was granted several patents for his work in pine stump wood products. He was technical director of Reasor Chemical Co in Columbia, Miss, when he retired in 1960. He was an emeritus member of American Chemical Society and a member of Salem Rotary Club and First Presbyterian Church. Survivors include his wife, Marie M.; daughter, Dr Elizabeth K. Smith, Seattle, Wash; son, Dr Bruce I., Salem; three grandchildren. Memorial services will be 1:30 pm Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, with private interment in Zena Cemetery under direction of Virgil T. Golden mortuary. The family suggests contributions to Salem YMCA, 685 Court St NE, Salem, Ore 97301.
