OBITUARY: 

At the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. A. Remington, D. and Winter streets, at 5 o'clock, Friday afternoon, October 9 at the age of 75, Andrew Jackson Purvine, of pneumona.
The following children survive Purvine, who came to Oregon in 1844: George, of Portland; Cyrus of Independence; C.M., of Portland; Mrs. Percy L. Willis, Ft. Columbia, Wash.; Albert, at the Purvine farm; Mrs. E. T. Prescott and Mrs. J. A. Remington, of Salem, Monroe, Fred.
The funeral will be held at 12 o'clock noon, Sunday, October 11, at the Zena church in Spring Valley.

CAME TO OREGON IN 1848
Andrew J. Purvine Died at Home of Daughter in Salem.
Salem, Or., Oct. 9—(Special.)—Andrew J. Purvine, an Oregon pioneer of 1848, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. A. Remington, in this city by pneumonia contracted a week ago. Deceased was born in Morgan County, Ill., 75 years ago, and came to Oregon in 1848, locating at Hubbard, and in 1852 taking a donation land claim near Zena, in Polk County, where he spent the remainder of his life.
Besides his widow, Pauline Staiger Purvine, he leaves nine children. Jordan and C. M. Purvine, of Portland; Cyrus Purvine, Independence; Mrs. P. L. Willis, Fort Columbia, Wash; Albert, Monroe and Fred Purvine, Zena; Mrs. E. T. Prescott and Mrs. J. A. Remington, Salem. The funeral will be conducted at noon Sunday from Zena Church.
