OBITUARY:
D.E. Fletcher, former well-known lawyer of Independence, was found dead in his home at Klamath Fallas, Tuesday. Death was attributed to natural causes, but investigation revealed that death had probably occurred two days preceding the finding of his body. Mrs Fletcher was in Salem visiting at the home of her daughter, Mrs Elmer Fry. Graveside services are to be held in the Womer cemetery at Pedee this afternoon at 2 o’clock. Harry Keeney will meet the body in Salem this morning at 6 o’clock, and local men will officiate as pallbearers. Mr Fletcher practiced law in Independence for a decade or more previous to locating in Klamath Falls. He was in partnership with Claude Barrick, now of Tillamook; later with Clyde Ellis, now of Alaska. He served one term as representative in the state legislature from Polk county, during which time he was chairman of the ways and means committee, and he was in the thick of the fight which gave Independence the Oregon Normal training school building. He served as secretary of the chamber of commerce for a number of years and was on the school board for a term. Mr Fletcher was an unsuccessful candidate for circuit judge after locating in Klamath Falls where he had continued the practice of his profession. He was a whole-souled, genial man, with a warm spot in his heart for the kiddies, and had an acquaintance which extended over the state. Mr Fletcher is survived by a widow, who was formerly Mrs Winnifred Irwin, a member of the well-known Womer family of the Pedee section.
