Townsen, Ira S.
Born in Jackson County, Missouri in 1829, and lived in that State and illinois until 1847, in whch hear he crossed the plains to Oregon. Took up a donation claim near Perrydale, in Polk County, where he sitll resides. Was first lieutenant in Captain Hayden's Company in the Yakima war. Was married in 1853 to Miss B. F. Smith, and has two sons, James H., a attorney at Dallas, and George N.

OBITUARY: 
TOWNSEND - At the farm home three quarters of a mile from Perrydale, Polk county, Saturday, Jan. 6, 1894, Ira F. [S.] Townsend, in his 65th year.
Mr. Townsend came to Oregon in 1847 and settled on the donation claim. He leaves a wife of two sons - Jas. F. Townsend, a lawyer at Dallas, and George N. Townsend, Manager of Knapp, Burrell & Co's store in Salem, to mourn his loss.
The funeral took place at 10 a.m. yestersay under the auspices of the Masonic lodge of Amity. The interment took place in Brown's graveyard, two miles north of Dallas.
