OBITUARY:
Thomas Clarence Brown, native born Polk county man and descendant of early pioneers, died Monday at the Dallas hospital. He would have been 82 next September. Tommy had been in failing health for several years but had been on the street downtown only a few days previously. He died only nine hours after being taken to the hospital. He had been at the Evans Nursing Home over a period of years.
He was born Sept. 20, 1876, son of John G. and Rachel Whitney Brown. His grandfather was William C. Brown, early day merchant of Cynthian and Dallas. He married Lula Vera Morgan in Dallas in 1899. She died here in 1938. Tommy had operated a farm just north of the city on the Coast highway for a number of years, but sold it and retired after his wife’s death. Until the last couple of years he had been a familiar figure on the streets. Tommy is survived by one brother, W.H. Brown, now residing in Portland, seven nieces and nephews. Services will be Friday at 3 pm at the Bollman Funeral chapel with Rev. Sydney Gaither officiating. Burial will be in the Brown family cemetery on Polk Station road.
