OBITUARY: 
Mrs. Mary Jane Brown, a pioneer resident of Dallas, passed away Monday evening at the home of her daughter Mrs. G.O. Butler, with whom she had made her home since her husband’s death 36 years ago. She had been ill a little over two months. 
The daughter of William P. and Sarah Shaw, Mrs. Brown was born in southern Iowa June 26, 1859. When 16 years of age she moved to Dallas with her parents and in August the next year married Alonzo Brown, Dallas merchant . To them was born one child, Maude, now Mrs. Butler. 
Mrs. Brown was one of the first members of Almira Rebekah lodge which was orgnaized in 1887. She was a member of the Southern Methodist church a number of years ago, but there has not been a church here for some time. 
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Henkle & Bollman funeral home with Rev John A. Linn, pastor of the Methodist church, officiating. Interment was at the Brown cemetery near Polk Station. Surviving are Mrs. Butler, one sister Mrs. James Boydston, three brothers, John D. Shaw, E.C. Shaw and Joel Shaw, all of Dallas.
