1900 OR CENSUS - Joseph L. Brown, age 47 occupation farmer, b. Nov 1852 in Oregon (father b. Ohio; mother b. Missouri), is enumerated with his wife Matilda, age 41, mother of no children, b. May 1859 in Missouri.

OBITUARY: 
Mrs. Matilda Brown, aged 71, died at the home of her sister Mrs. Anna Stayton of Stayton Monday after an illness of six weeks. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at 10 o’clock at the Weddle funeral chapel in Stayton with Rev Q.D. Barry, pastor of the Baptist church, officiating. Interment was made in the Brown cemetery near Dallas. 
Mrs. Brown was the widow of the late Joe Brown and made her home here for 30 years. She resided at 115 Ash street until about six weeks ago, when she went to the home of her sister to remain during her illness. She was born in Gentry county, Mo, June 25, 1858, and came to Oregon in 1865 with her parents Rev. and Mrs. William Jeter. Matilda Jeter resided at the old home near Stayton until 30 years ago when she married J.L. Brown and came here to live. 
She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Anna Stayton Stayton and Mrs. Blanche Goin, Jefferson; two brothers, Elias H. Jeter, Portland, and James B. Jeter, Stayton, in addition to a host of friends.
