Jacob Hanson was a native of Denmark, having been born at Copenhagen February 25, 1852, and died in Dallas April 26, 1923. He was married to Emma F. Marks April 25, 1882, and from this union five children were born, all living, as follows: Charles R. Hanson, Australia; Harold J. Hanson, Portland; Mrs. Beryl Pierce, Dallas; Bryan J. Mr. Hanson came to Oregon when he was a young man of 17 years. He helped finish the first train in Oregon that was operated by Ben Holiday. For a number of years he lived at Salem before coming to Dallas. While here he was engaged in the carriage and auto trimming business but was forced to discontinue on account of ill health. Prior to his death he had been sick for three months and four days.
