Thomas Thorson, Oct. 30, 1943-June 14, 1999 Thomas Morten Thorson of Independence died June 14 near Rickreall. He was 55. Born in Oregon City to Donald O. and Mildred Klobes Thorson, he attended Sacred Heart Catholic School. He graduated from Cleveland High School in Portland in 1962. He married Dianna Binam in Winnemucca, Nev, on Aug 8, 1966. He lived in Portland until 1973, moving to Independence in 1978. He was a log truck driver for 18 years, working 15 years for Siletz Trucking in Independence. The past two months he drove for Hofenbredl Logging in Grand Ronde. A member of St Philip Catholic Church in Dallas and the Knights of Columbus, eh was also a member of the Christian Motorcycle Association and the Oregon Veterans Motorcycle Association Salem Chapter. He helped at Christmas time with the Shriners Run for children, collected stuffed animals for patients at Shriners Hospital in Portland. He enjoyed spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife, Dianna of Independence; sons, Thomas Thorson and Dustin Thorson, both of Monmouth; daughters, Rita Thorson of Monmouth and Elizabeth Thorson of Salem and his father, Donald Thorson of Mesa, Ariz. His mother, Mildred Thorson died Feb 9, 1980.Recitation of the Rosary was followed by Mass of Christian Burial at St Philip Catholic Church June 18. Interment followed in Fir Crest [Smith] Cemetery in Monmouth. Memorial contributions may be made to the Knights of Columbus or Christian Motorcycle Association in care of Dallas Mortuary chapel.
