Mary Virginia Holbrook, June 12, 1918-Oct. 8, 1999
Mary Virginia Holbrook of Dallas died Oct 8 in Portland. She was 81. Born in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Gilbert and Effie Jones Hawkins, she moved to Oregon in the 1940s. She worked in the shipyards during World War II. She met Edward Holbrook while working in Portland. They married on April 9, 1945 in Vancouver, Wash. She lived in West Salem before moving to Monmouth in 1956. After her husband’s death in 1990 she moved to Dallas. She and her husband were foster parents for many years. A devoted Christian, she was a member of the First Baptist Church in Independence. Survivors include a brother, Robert Hawkins of Salem; sisters-in-law, Mettie Holbrook of Dallas, Alice Stockman of Royalton, Minn, Alice Taylor of French Link, Ind, and numerous nieces and nephews. Services were held Oct 18 at Farnstrom Mortuary. Interment followed at Smith cemetery in Monmouth.
