OBITUARY: Vernon L. Chandler, Jan 30, 1922-Sept 23, 2000
Monmouth – Vernon Chandler, 78, died Saturday. He was born in Huron, SD, and served in the Navy during World War II. He graduated from Elgin watch College and worked in retail sales in LaGrande and Pasco, Wash. He moved to Salem in 1986, to Dallas and to Monmouth in 1989. He was a member of Capitol Carvers and enjoyed repairing clocks, woodcarving and traveling. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth, whom he married in 1980; son, Ronald of Redmond; stepsons, James Vanduyn of Baker City and Charles Grant of Seattle; daughters, Kathe Cook of Richland, Wash, and Jennifer Flannery of Clackamas; step-daughters, Sue Blackaby of Ontario, Holly Grant of Eugene, and Elizabeth Grant of Silver Spring, Md.; two grandchildren and four step-grandchildren. Services will be 4 pm Saturday at Central School District Conference Room Independence. Inurnment will be at Smith Cemetery. Arrangements are by Farnstrom Mortuary, Independence.
