OBITUARY: 
Mrs. Ruth Adeline Embree, 85-year-old pioneer resident of Polk county, passed away on Friday, December 29. Funeral services were held at 2:00 o’clock Sunday, December 31, at the Dallas Evangelical church with Rev. C.P. Gates officiating. Mr. Gates was a former pastor of the church in which she had long been a member. Burial was in the Smith cemetery at Lewisville, with Henkle & Thomas in charge. 
Mrs. Embree was born May 13, 1848, near Des Moines, Iowa, and crossed the plains to Oregon when a girl of 13 with her parents. They settled in Yamhill county, later moving to Polk county. She was married to Marcus Embree July 13, 1865. They lived for a number of years in Lincoln county, returning to Polk county in 1900. They made their home in Dallas for some time. Mr. Embree passed away 21 years ago. Mrs. Embree had been residing with her son Cecil Embree at Lewisville for the past 13 years. 
Eight children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Embree, two of whom survive: Cecil of Lewisville and Elton of Woodland, Calif. She also raised a grandson, Arthur Hardison of Dallas. She also leaves a sister Mrs. Tabitha Simpson of Portland, a brother C.L. Morrison of Elk City, and thirteen other grandchildren.
