OBITUARY: 

Funeral services were held Sunday at the Smith-Baun funeral home in Independence for George R. Swearingen, 72, who died November 30 at his home in West Salem. Henkle & Bollman were in charge of arrangements and interment was in the Smith cemetery near Monmouth. Mr Swearingen lived south of Dallas for several years before moving to West Salem where he resided with his wife for the past two years. He had been a resident of the state for 40 years. He was born on April 1, 1873, at Wapallo, Iowa. He was a retired farmer. Survivors are the wife, Mrs Leutisha Swearingen, Salem; three sons, Joe L. Swearingen of Jasper, Merle R. Swearingen of Canby and Arch L. Swearingen of Salem; two daughters, Mrs Jennie C. Putman of Corvallis and Mrs Ruth B. Rose of Sheridan. There are five grandchildren.
