OBITUARY: 
Mrs Emma Lewsis Powell, aged 77, died Monday evening, May 13, at the home of her niece, Mrs Lester Kearns, at Salem. The funeral will be held today at Henkle’s chapel, Dallas, with interment at Smith’s cemetery near Lewisville. Mrs Powell was born June 22, 1851, at Lewisville and lived there the greater part of her life until she moved to Valsetz two years ago. She was ill only two months before her death in Salem Monday. Her parents, Mary and David Lewis, crossed the plains to Oregon in early pioneer times. Lewisville was named for her father, David Lewis. She married John S.S. Powell June 29, 1867, and was the mother of 15 children, six of whom survive. Mrs Powell was a member of the Christian church at Falls City and was a devout member and an ardent Christian worker during the years of her life. She is survived by four daughters and two sons: Mrs J.J. Kreitzer, C.E. Powell and W.C. Powell, all of Valsetz; Mrs W.T. Brown of Airlie; Mrs C.B. Culver of Portland and Mrs L.D. Baldwin, Tenino, Wash; one sister, Mrs Lena Graves, Dallas; 16 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Itemizer Observer, Thursday, May 16, 1929, 5:4
