Dixie Marie Hazelton, July 16, 1977-Aug. 24, 2000
Dixie Marie Hazelton of Independence died on Aug 24 in Salem. She was 23. She was born on July 16, 1977 the oldest of five children born to Randy Brown and Roselle Mattern. Her family later moved to Oregon and she graduated from Dallas High School in 1975. While a student at DHS she was involved in recording wrestling statistics. She married Tom Hazelton on Dec 17, 1994 in Dallas. Their marriage was later sealed in the Portland Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She worked at the Les Schwab Tire Center in Dallas in 1995 and 1996. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was serving in the nursery, tending young children. Her life and her love testified that Jesus Christ lives. Her hobbies included scrap booking, stamping and teaching her kids songs. She was amazing and even growing up she was a born mother and nurtured as much as teased those around her. She had an infectious laugh, a loveable mischievousness and zest for life that helped her through the many trials she faced in her short 23 years. Her incredible patience, her love for people, especially children and her large smile drew people to her. Her greatest desire in life was to be a wife and a mother, two roles she fulfilled with complete devotion. She loved God and taught her children that he loved them as much as she did. Survivors include her husband, Tom Hazelton of Independence; daughters, Emily Hazelton and Amber Hazelton, both of Independence; son, Adam Hazelton of Independence, born on Aug 21, 2000; father, Randy Brown of Salem; mother, Roselle Mattern of Dallas; sisters, Danae Brown of Eugene, Teresa Brown and Amanda Brown of Dallas; brother, Jared Brown of Salem; and her grandparents and great-grandparents. Services were Aug 28 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Monmouth. Vault interment was at Smith Cemetery in Monmouth. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association in care of Farnstrom Mortuary, Independence.
