1900 OR CENSUS - Edmon F. Gholson, age 66, occupation farmer, b. Feb 1834 in Iowa, is enumerated with his wife of 45 years, Martha A., age 62, mother of 7 children 5 of whom are living at the time of the census, b. Mar 1838 in Kentucky, along with William F., age 9, b. Feb 1889 in Washington.

OBITUARY: 
Died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. N.H. Alderman, of Zena, Polk county, July 5, 1918, Edward [Edmund] F. Gholson, at the age of 84 years. 
He is survived by one son and three daughters: William Gholson of Ward, California; Mrs P.E. Holdridge, of Yamhill county; Mrs J. Soan and Mrs N.H. Alderman of Polk county. J.A. Darr of Salem is a nephew. 
Mr Gholson was Salem’s first ferryman. He crossed the plains from Iowa in 1852, settling near Salem. The funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the Alderman home and will be conducted by the Rev McKinley of Zena. Burial will be in the Ernest cemetery.
