Barbara Matteson, February 8, 1949-July 6, 2008
Dallas – Barbara Elaine Matteson, 59, a resident of Dallas, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, July 6, 2008. She was born on February 8, 1949 in Salem, Oregon the daughter of Ray and Mary Alys Letterman Tarter. She graduated from Central High School in 1967 and married John Matteson on September 19, 1970 in Independence. They lived in Alaska from 1973 to 1982 in logging camps. They returned to the mainland and she worked for House of Lloyd for 18 years. For the past two and a half years she has worked in sales with the Charter Cable Company. Sewing was a hobby Barbara enjoyed and she made quilts. She was the family social director with large family dinners and many activities. Barb enjoyed traveling to many parts of the world including the Holy Land, Greece, Mexico and Spain. She enjoyed fishing in Alaska and beachcombing. She was a member of the Faith Evangelical Free Church and Bible study groups at the church. She is survived by her husband, John of Dallas; daughters, Misty and her husband Joe of Keizer and Lyndsey Matteson of Portland; and granddaughter, Ava. Also surviving are her parents, Ray and Mary Tarter of Monmouth; brother, Gerald and his wife Kathy Tarter of Monmouth; sister, Karen and her husband Mike Lockabey of Wrangell, Alaska; and brother, Kevin and his wife Leeann Tarter of Keizer. A funeral service will begin at 2 pm Friday, July 11 in the Faith Eangelical Free Church with Pastor Ed Sutter officiating. Interment will follow in the English Cemetery in Monmouth. The family requests no flowers but suggest memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society in care of the Dallas Mortuary Tribute Center at 287 SW Washington St, Dallas, Oregon 97338.
