OBITUARY: Crystal Rose, Sept. 2, 1908-Jan. 8, 1995
Crystal Helen Rose of Corvallis died in Corvallis Jan 8. She was 86. She was born in Medical Lake, Wash, to William and Florence Barnes Mills. She married Burrus Marion Rose on May 7, 1927 in Forest Grove. He died Oct 10, 1989. The couple was married 62 years.
A homemaker, she lived in Salem for 10 years, moving to Valsetz, where she lived for five years. She spent the next three years in Dallas, four years in Clatskanie and six in Independence. Crystal then moved to Portland, where she spent 40 years before moving to Corvallis in 1989. Her great-grandfather, Richard Sharpe Crystal, was a blacksmith in Dallas on the site where Guy’s Hardware now stands. He also was Polk County Treasurer and a state representative in the 1870s.
Crystal was an avid reader of books about Oregon history and was in charge of the family genealogy. After she became legally blind she took up crocheting. She literally produced hundreds of lap robes for family members and friends. She liked to read all types of maps while she was still able.
Survivors include daughters, Audrey Theurer of Kings Valley, Francis Shy of Tangent, LeVerne Nepple of Portland and Nancy Bell of Sitka, Alaska; sons, Bert Rose of McMinnville, Paul Rose of Carson City, Nev, and Steve Rose of Vancouver, Wash; a sister, Delores Gribble of Heppner; 21 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Services will begin at 1 pm on Saturday, Jan 14 in the Bollman Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the English Cemetery in Monmouth.
