A resident of Polk County for most of her life and of Dallas for 26 years until 1945, Mrs. Sarah Emily Staats, 82, died Friday at the home of her son, Dr. V.C. Staats of Carlton. Funeral services were held from the Henkle and Bollman chapel at 2 pm Tuesday with interment in the Old English cemetery south of Monmouth. 
Mrs. Staats was born on January 19, 1865, at Airlie, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Tarter. In 1881 she was married to Clarence E. Staats at Independence. They lived in the Airlie community until 1919 when they came to Dallas. Upon Mr. Staats’ death in 1945 Mrs. Staats swent to Carlton to be with her son. Prominent in civic and social affairs, Mrs. Staats had been a member of the Neighbors of Woodcraft for 35 years. She was a past worthy martron of Naomi chapter, Order of Eastern Star and was also a member of the Daughters of the Nile. Surviving are two sons, Dr. Staats of Carlton and Vere L. Staats of Oceanlake; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren. One daughter, Eva Ritner, preceded her in death.
