Came to Oregon Across the Plains From, Arkansas in 1853
Mrs. Susan Catherine Williams, wife of T. B. Williams, and a resident of Polk county since 1853, died at the family home in Airlie last Friday, July 29. She was ill but a few days, the end coming unexpectedly. 
Mrs.Williams was nearly 81 years old, having been born at Little Rock, Arkansas, September 11, 1846. She came to Oregon across the plains in 1853, settling in Polk county. She was married to Thomas B. Williams in 1862, and the family residence has been maintained in and near Airlie the greater part of the time since then. For a few years Mr. and Mrs. Williams lived between Independence and Monmouth, returning to Airlie some five or six years ago. 
Mrs. Williams is survived by her husband, Thomas B. Williams, who is likewise an Oregon pioneer and a few years her senior in age; two daughters, Mrs. Dolly Scanlon, Portland; Mrs. Nannie Goyeau, Jasper, Oregon; a brother, John Faulkenberg, Portland; two half brothers, George and Mark Sebring; seven grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. Two sons, Robert L. and Hugh P. are deceased. 
Funeral services were held at the Airlie church, Sunday, at 1:30 pm, under the direction of the Keeney funeral home. Rev D.V. Poling, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, Albany, a relative o the deceased, officiated. Interment was in the family plot in the English cemetery at Airlie. 
Mrs. Williams was a woman of outstanding character traits and held the esteem and admiration of a large circle of friends.
