Mrs. Surbrina Tarter, 82, died at her home in Salem January 14. She was born April 4, 1875, in Independence, daughter of Polk county pioneers, Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius Haight, and had lived in Polk county all her life except for the last 13 years, which were spent in Salem. She was married to Henry Tarter Dec 1, 1897, at Albany. Rev. D. V. Pooling was the minister at the wedding. Mr. Tarter died Feb 16, 1913. 
She is survived by sons Stephen Tarter, Rt 1, Salem; Charles Tarter, Airlie; H.G. Tarter, Hamilton, Ohio; daughters Elta Sams, Fairbanks, Alaska, and LaVerne Riker, Independence; 18 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Stahl, Portland, and Mr.s Josie Dixon, Corvallis, and brother Asa Haight, Corvallis. She was a lifetime member of the Evangelical Unhited Brethren church. 
Funeral services will be today (Thursday) at 1:30 in the chapel of the W.T. Rigdon Co. Rev A.G. Jamieson will officiate. Concluding services will be at Fir Crest [English] cemetery, Monmouth. Pallbearers will be Mrs. Tarter’s grandsons.
