OBITUARY: William Lewis Wienert, 80, of Sisters, died of natural causes on Feb. 14, 2001.
He was born Jan. 13, 1921 in Dallas.
He served as a B-29 pilot in the World War II Army Air Corps, and flew 30 combat missions in the Pacific theater. He was awarded the Air Medal with five oak leaf clusters, and the Distinguished Flying Crest with one oak leaf cluster.
He married Beverly Golden on Nov. 2, 1944 in North Platte, Neb. He owned Wienert Lumber Company in Toledo, and was co-owner of Lincoln Lumber Sales in Newport.
He was a member of the Episcopal church, and of the Elks Lodge in Toledo.
Mr. Wienert is survived by his wife, Beverly J. Wienert of Sisters; daughters Janis Cohen of Sebastopol, Calif., Susan Fieber of Stevensville, Mont., and Cheri Montagne of Yankton, S.D.; and a son, Bill Wienert, of Madras.
A memorial service will take place Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration, Sisters. Private burial will take place at Fircrest Cemetery in Independence. Memorial contributions may be made to hospice.
