OBITUARY:
Walter E. Thrasher, 42, son of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Thrasher of Philomath, passed away in a Corvallis hospital Sunday, April 30. He had been in failing health for several months and his condition had been critical for the past few weeks.
The deceased was born in Independence, March 3, 1902, but when quite young, moved with his parents to Falls City where he attended elementary school and high school. Later he graduated from the Oregon Normal school at Monmouth, and the University of Oregon, since which time he had been employed as an instructor in the high schools of Oregon and Montana and just prior to his illness he was teaching in the Clide [Glide?] high school near Roseburg.
Mr. Thrasher was keenly interested in various educational activities and swas held in hnigh esteem by his associates. He was a member of the Christian church and was also affiliated with the Independence Order of Odd Fellows and the Rebekah lodges at Roseburg. Besides his parents he is survived by two brothers, 1st Lt Carl W. Thrasher and Master Sergeant Kenneth P. Thrasher, both now serving with the U.S. Army air corps.
The remains were at the Keeney Funeral Home (Corvallis) and funeral services were held in their chapel Wednesday, May 3. Interment was in the family plot in the New English cemetery at Monmouth. The deceased was a nephew of Bert Rose of Independence.
