OBITUARY: 
George Jacob Ploub, of 152 H St, Independence, died of cancer May 8 in a Salem hospital. He was 71. 
A resident of Oregon for 55 years, he moved in 1940 to Independence, where he worked as a mechanic. 
He was a member of IOOF Valley Lodge No 42, of which he was a past Noble Grand. 
His wife Lavell died in 1974. 
He is survived by his brother, Frances of Independence; sisters, Ann Parsons of Eugene, Ruth Buker of Salem, Alyce Harter of Siletz, and Lucille McReynolds of Forest Grove, and several nieces and nephews. 
Funeral services were held May 12 at Parmenter Mortuary, with vault interment following at English Cemetery in Monmouth. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, in care of Parmenter Mortuary, Independence.
