James Wheeler, aged 82, walked out of the second story of the Farmer's Hotel, at Corvallis, Wednesday, and received serious injuries.

Death of James Wheeler.
He was born in Tennessee 82 years ago and died in Corvallis last Monday as the result of a fall. He was buried Tuesday out on the Luckiamute in the Chamberlain cemetery where a brother was laid to rest some 40 years ago, and where so many of the Collins, Neally and Chamberlain pioneer families repose. He came to California in 1849 [sic - this date doesn't fit with the information in Donation Land Claims, showing he was clearly in Oregon by April 1, 1849] and the next year to Oregon. He settled on a farm between Suver and Airlie and lived there full 50 years. The surviving children are Mrs. Sarelia Cunningham, Elgin, Washington; Mrs. Ida Baird, Spokane, Washington; Mrs. Flora Hazey, Burns, Oregon; Mrs. C.L. Hubbard, Dallas, Oregon; Mrs. E.J. Staats, North Yakima, Washington; Miss Joanna Bowman, Corvallis, Oregon; Mansell Wheeler, Grizzly, Oregon; Wilbur Wheeler, Kalespel, Oregon [sic]; Ellis Wheeler, Dillon, Montana; and Harley, the youngest child.

INJURIES PROVED FATAL
James Wheeler, Who Fell From Hotel Window in Corvallis, Died Monday.
The death of James Wheeler, who fell from the second story of the Farmers’ Hotel three weeks ago Tuesday evening occurred in Corvallis Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock. The remains will be interred in the Chamberlain cemetery, near Suver at 1 o’clock Tuesday afternoon.
James Wheeler was born in Tennessee September 9, 1820, and was 82 years old last September. He came to this coast in 1849 and located in California [sic - this date doesn't fit with the information in Donation Land Claims, showing he was clearly in Oregon by April 1, 1849]. The following year he came to Oregon and located on a farm near Soap Creek, where he remained for 50 years.
The sons and daughters who survive him are: Mrs. Sarelia Cunningham, Elgin, Wash; Mansell Wheeler, Grizzly, Ore; Mrs. C.L. Hubbard, Dallas, Ore; Wilbur Wilson [sic], Kalispell, Mont; Ellis Wheeler, Dillon, Mont; Mrs. Ida Baird, Spokane, Wash; Mrs. Flora Hagey, Burns, Ore; Mrs. E.J. Staats, North Yakima, Wash; Mrs. Joanna Bowman, of Corvallis, and Harley Wheeler, his youngest child. The old gentleman leaves many friends behind him who sincerely mourn his death. He was one of the early pioneers who toiled to make Oregon what she is today. – Corvallis Gazette
