Body found in Willamette Identified
SALEM - The body of a woman found Sunday in the Willamette Rver was positively identified Monday as that of Terry Cox Monroe, 21, ho had been missing since Feb. 12, police said.
Official said after an autopsy Monday that she had died of "homicidal" asphyxiation."
The Salem woman disappeared from a north Salem tavern last month after she told acquaintances she was steppng outside for some fresh air.
When she didn't return, the acqaintances notified police, who discovered her clothing and identification the next day on a river bank near the tavern. Police and sheriff's deputies combed the river for several days looking fo the missing woman.
The body was discovered Sunday by a boater. It was wedge by the current among pilings and debris about three miles from the tavern, Salem Police Lt. Robert Sappingfield said.
The case was not being linked to "I-5 bandit" crimes. Randall Woodfield has been charge in the Jan. 18 Salem murder of 19-year-old Shari Hill and the attempted murder of Lisa CGarcia, crimes connected to the "I-5 bandit," Sappingfield said.

Terry L. Monroe, 21, 1902 Beaver Loop NW, has been found dead since she was reported missing Feb 12. She came to Salem in 1964 and graduated from North Salem High School in 1977. She was a sales clerk for Pay-Less Drug Store. Survivors include parents, Donald and Viola Monroe, and sister, Penny Hudson, Salem; and grandparents, Mr and Mrs E.L. Errand, Sheridan. Services will be 3:30 pm Saturday at Virgil T. Golden mortuary. Private interment will be in Zena Cemetery.
