OBITUARY:

Ann Caroline Petersen Corey Smith, December 21, 1933-November 30, 2016

Salem – Ann was born to Fred and Hazel Petersen December 21, 1933 in Bagley, Minnesota. She was the youngest of seven children. Along with her parents and one sister, Ann moved to Oregon at age 11. She lived in Albany and attended South Albany High School. Throughout her life she also lived in Medford, Portland, Waldport and the Salem area. Ann married Bill Corey in 1950 and they had one child, son Pat Corey. Together they enjoyed exploring Oregon, camping and fishing. On March 15, 1973 Ann married Jim Smith. Ann and Jim were together almost 39 years when Jim passed away in March 2012. Ann held different jobs throughout her life, working many years for insurance companies. After retirement Ann and Jim had a beach house built in Waldport and for several years enjoyed dividing their time between their Salem home and the beach house. Later they spent winters in Arizona where they made many new friends. Ann and Jim also went on several cruises and saw many countries. The cruises were the highlight of their retirement. Ann’s joys were love of God, Jim and family. Ann and Jim were members of Salem First Christian Church for many years. Ann is survived by her sister June Heyle (Lee), her son Pat Corey (Debby), granddaughter Megan Corey, stepdaughters Janet Gardner (Al) and Karen Taylor (Denny), stepgrandchildren Troy Knivila-Ritchie, Adam Ritchie and Jason Gardner, and by four great-grandchildren. Services will be held 1:30 pm Saturday, December 10th in the Salem First Christian Churchy, 685 Marion Street, Salem, Oregon. A private interment will be held at Zena Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Salem First Christian Church, Willamette Valley Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
