DEATH CERTIFICATE:
OBITUARY:

Jerry Everett Taylor December 14, 1929 - February 11, 2009 KEIZER - Jerry Taylor died of age-related causes on February 11, 2009 in Salem, Oregon, at the age of 79. A life-long resident of Oregon, he was born on December 14, 1929 in Corvallis to Everett (Chuck) Taylor and Estella Martin Taylor. He spent his childhood years in Salem and on his grandparent's farm in Corvallis. Jerry graduated from Salem High School and married Marion Coffel on December 22, 1950, while a student at Willamette University. Jerry was the first member of his family to earn a college degree, graduating in 1952 with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics, with his son, Michael, on his knee. Two daughters, Susan and Nancy, were to follow, and the family made their home in Keizer. Jerry's career path reflected his commitment to service and to making a positive difference in his community. He worked as an Oregon State Police officer, an agent for Allstate Insurance, and served in the Oregon National Guard over a 42 year span, early on as a Mess Sergeant, retiring in 1989 as the Command Sergeant Major of the 1249th Engineer Battalion. Jerry owned and managed several small businesses, including the Plaza Restaurant in Stayton, Fitts Seafood Market in Medford, and a Union Oil station in Salem. In addition, Jerry was a volunteer firefighter in the Keizer Fire Department, and a member of the Keizer Kiwanis Club. In his free time Jerry enjoyed fishing, gardening, and traveling with his wife and family. He will be remembered for his strength, friendliness, integrity, foresight, and playful sense of humor. He had a keen ability to recognize people's strengths, and was committed to supporting and guiding young adults past barriers related to disability, prejudice, and sexism. Jerry was predeceased by his parents; his siblings, Doris and Joyce; and his son, Mike. He is survived by Marion, his wife of 58 years; daughters, Susan Carriger and Nancy Taylor Kemp; daughter-in-law, Shoshana Kerewsky; and his grandson, Jeremy Carriger. At his request, no services will be held. Interment will be at the Zena Pioneer Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Wolfhaven International, the National Wildlife Federation, or Willamette Valley Hospice.
