Feb. 13, 1914 – April 14, 1989
Services for Otto Roller, 75, of Salem, who died Friday in Salem, will begin at 3 p.m. Thursday in Howell-Edwards-Doerksen mortuary.
He was born in Castle Rock, Wash., and he moved to Salem about 50 years ago from Portland. He married Evelyn Hunt Grant on Dec. 1, 1957, in Salem. He was a chef for Henry Thiele’s in Portland, and he had owned and operated the Grill in Salem from 1939 to 1954. He later was chef at Meier and Frank. He was also chef for Willamette University and the Marion Hotel. He retired in 1979. He owned and operated a care home after retiring.
Cooking was his occupation and hobby. He was a member of the Spring Valley Community Church, Zena.
Survivors include his wife; daughters, Marie Patton, Marie Pederson and Amy Hanson, all of Salem, Melba Hollandsworth of Spokane, Wash., Marjorie Hutchison of Post Falls, Idaho, and Donna Muggle of Bothell, Wash;; sons, Mitcheal Grant of Salem and Otto Jr. of Keizer; and a sister, Dollie of Portland.
Interment will be in Zena Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association of the Mid-Willamette Valley.
