OBITUARY:

Donald R. "Mick" Rinehart
SALEM - Mick Rinehart died on March 30, 2007 at Harmony Home in Salem, Oregon. He is survived by his daughters, Sarah K. Rinehart-Earle (son-in-law, Thomas) and Michelle Rinehart-Rogers (son-in-law, T Jay); granddaughter, Anna; and eight grand-dogs, (four each). He is also survived by Dee Rinehart and Paula Rinehart, prior spouses, both of whom have remained close friends of Mick's through the years.
Mick came from pioneering stock. His family crossed the plains in 1852 in a covered wagon and became one of the founding families of Canyonville, Oregon and Bellingham, Washington.
Dad graduated from the University of Washington, were he was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity. He was a professor at the University of Oregon and Portland State University. He was a noted lecturer and published author. He spent the last of his professional years in private practice in Salem. He decided to retire when the health insurance forms were more time consuming than his practice.
Our Dad had a wonderful sense of humor. When he was a student at Bellingham High School, the gym coach had an "issue" with his attendance. He was instructed that he was to complete 100 laps of the track over the next 2 weeks. The coach exited the school to see my Dad driving his convertible Mercury (Dad loved Mercurys) around the track 100 times with the bleachers full of the cheering student body.
Over the last eight years, Dad bore the insidious disease of Alzheimer's that slowly then rapidly pulled the life and light out of him, with a combination of apprehension, grace, fear, acceptance, and finally peace.
Our family wishes to thank all of our friends for their support and understanding during this time. We would like to make a personal note of thanks to Dee Humphries, who has helped us through this maze and to Helen and Cindy at Harmony House who made Dad's comfortable passing and our families' ability to cope their utmost priority. Interment will be private. Remembrances may be made to the Ava Baby Rinehart-Earle Dachshund Fund at the Willamette Humane Society, P.O. Box 13005, Salem, Oregon 97309. Arrangements are by Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.
