OBITUARY: 

A memorial service for Margaret Mary Purvine of Southeast Portland, a retired Jefferson High School teacher, will be at 1 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Mt. St. Joseph's Residence and Extended Care Center.
She died Wednesday in a Portland care center of causes related to age. Miss Purvine was born Dec. 5, 1898, in Zena in Polk County, she moved to the Portland area as a child. Her parents, Charles Purvine and Fannie Sowers Reid, were Oregon pioneers. She attended Thompson Grade School and was a 1917 graduate of Jefferson High School.
Miss Purvine earned an Oregon teaching certificate in 1922 and went to work in the Marion County school system that year. In 1924, she transferred to Jefferson in Portland as a teacher of commercial subjects. She went on to serve as head of the school's commercial department, which encompassed typing, bookkeeping and shorthand, until her retirement in 1961.
Miss Purvine had attended the Behnke-Walker Business College, the University of Washington and Reed College and took extension classes through the University of Oregon in Portland.
Survivors include her brother, Byron of Salem.
Interment will be in Zena at the cemetery of Spring Valley Presbyterian Church.
The family suggests that remembrances be contributions to a favorite charity.
