OBITUARY: 

Wayne Randle Parks, Aug 21, 1947-April 6, 2003

Lake Oswego – After a lengthy illness, Wayne passed away peacefully at his home with his wife, Martha. He grew up on the family ranch in Tomales, Calif, where he was active in 4H and FFA. He graduated with both Bachelors Degree and Masters in Business from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Upon graduation he entered the grain business as a merchant trainee with Continental Grain Co and worked in Milwaukee, Wisc and Des Moines, Iowa. In 1974, he moved to Memphis, Tenn, to work for Cook Industries. He moved to Portland in 1978 to assume the role of merchandising manager for a newly formed gain export firm, Columbia Grain. During 1978-1999 he played a key role in the formation and growth of Columbia and became President of the company. He was active in the grain industry and was President of several organizations including the Portland Grain Exchange, the PNW Grain and Feed Association and the Pacific Grain Export Association. He has been an independent consultant since 2000. Survivors include his wife, Martha; daughter, Kallee; granddaughter, Michaela; mother, Lois of Tomales, Calif; brothers, Robert (and his wife Sally) Parks of Sebastopol, Calif; sister, Sharon (and her husband Eric) Knudsen of Tomales, Calif; ten nieces and nephews; and aunts, Helen Randle of Salem and Georgia Randle of Beaverton. He was preceded in death by his father, Roy. Private family graveside services will be held Friday with private vault interment at Zena Cemetery. Contributions may be made to PNEGFA Scholarship Fund, 200 SW Market Suite 348 Portland, OR 97201 or Tomales Regional History Center, PO Box 262 Tomales, CA 94971. Arrangements are by Barrick Funeral Home in Salem.
