1900 OR CENSUS - Laduska Sears (b May 1857, Oregon, mother of 5 children, all living) enumerated with husband  James K. (b Sept 1846, Iowa, married 21 years) and 5 children, all born in Oregon, Maud (b Nov 1879), Dora (b May 1882), Winnetta (b May 1884), Burnest (b Aug 1885) and Earl (b Sept 1888); also with the family was servant John Allen (b Apr 1869, Oregon)

OBITUARY: 

SEARS.—At the family home, McCoy, Oregon, Friday, August 14, 1903, Mrs. Laduska Sears, wife of J. K. Sears, of appoplexy, [sic] aged 46 years, 2 months and 21 days. Mrs. Sears’ death was sudden and unexpected, as she had not been ill prior to the time that she suffered the stroke that ended her life. She was born May 27, 1857. She leaves a husband, four daughters and one son—Maude, Dora, Winnette, Bernice and Earl, all of them residing at home, to mourn her demise. The family is well known in this city, having spent the past several winters here to enable the children to attend the public schools here. The funeral will be held at Zena tomorrow morning at 11 o’clock, the procession leaving the family home at McCoy at 9 o’clock.

NATIVE DAUGHTER OF POLK COUNTY
McCoy, Or., Aug. 25—Mrs. Laduska J. Sears wife of James K. Sears, of McCoy, died suddenly at her home, Friday, August 14, aged 46 years. The burial took place at Zena Cemetery the 16th. Professor W. J. Crawford delivered a brief address at the church. Mrs. Sears not being a member of any church no religious services were had.
Mrs. Sears was of a very happy disposition, of great social qualities. She was high-spirited and a truly lovable woman. She was a devoted wife and mother. None knew her but to love and admire her.
Laduska J. Walker, daughter of Walter M. and Jane Walker was born in the log cabin on their donation claim in Spring Valley, Polk County, Oregon May 24, 1857. She was educated in the public school and at the Sister’s Academy in Salem.
On January 10, 1878, at her home she was married to James K. Sears who, with four daughters and one son, survive her.
