OBITUARY: 

TOWNSEND—At his home in Spring Valley, Polk county, at 9 a.m. August 10, of cancer of the liver, David Townsend, aged 80 years.
The deceased was an old pioneer of Polk county, having crossed the plains to Oregon in 1846. He leave [sic] a family of eight children—six daughters and two sons—as follows: Mrs. Jos. Reeves, Mrs. Maraget La Foilette, [sic] Mrs. Malinda Wickham, Mrs. Amanda Lake, Mrs. Minnie Dimick and Miss Annie Townsend, all residing in the vicinity of the farm home, either in Marion or Polk counties, F. M. Townsend, of Seattle, Wash., and Lafe Townsend, of Polk county.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 o’clock tomorrow afternoon in the Zena church and burial will take place in the Zena cemetery.
