OBITUARY: 

Dr Dominic Leo Callicrate Jr, 66, former chief medical officer at Fairview Training Center, died Monday. Callicrate, of 3120 Granada Way S, was a native of Portland. He graduated from the University of Portland and the University of Oregon Medical School, and served as a captain in the Army during World War II. He came here in 1948 from Fort Benning, Ga. He was a staff member at Fairview until retiring in 1976 as chief medical officer. A specialist in poisonous plants, Callicrate volunteered after his retirement to survey the 600 acres at Fairview for plants that might be dangerous if eaten by mentally retarded residents. He was a member of the Oregon Medical Association, Oregon Medical Society and St Joseph Catholic Church. Survivors include his sons, John and Phillip, both of Eugene, Paul, San Francisco, Richard, Boston, Jim, Independence, David, Portland, and Ed, Salem; daughters, Dr Mary Kay McCarthy and Ann Calllicrate, both of Portland, Margaret Callicrate, Corvallis, and Linda Ruano, Salem; mother, Lorraine Callicrate, Portland; brothers, Robert, Hood River, and Patrick, Portland; and sister, Mary Lorraine Endicott, Gold Beach. Memorial mass will be at 11 am Thursday in St Joseph Catholic Church. Interment will be in Zena Cemetery, under direction of Howell-Edwards-Doerksen mortuary. Contributions may be made to the Oregon Lung Association.
