OBITUARY: George Bain, the 20 year old son of Jack Bain, a farmer of Spring Valley, committed suicide by hanging himself in his barn sometime between four and six o’clock Sunday afternoon. The circumstances surrounding the case indicate that the suicide was the result of disappointment in love, although some other cause may have led up to the death of the young man. He had, only two days ago, passed a successful examination in the public schools near his home and had apparently a bright future before him.
The family, consisting of the father and son (the mother and several sisters having died long since) came to Polk County from Eastern Oregon about three years ago and purchased five acres of land on which they have made a living since that time. Young Bain had many friends in his neighborhood and a gloom has been cast over the entire section by his rash act.
