OBITUARY: 
Mrs Alice Eleanor Yeater passed away at her home on south Monmouth avenue at noon Saturday following a long illness. Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, at 2 pm in the Monmouth Christian church with the Keeney Funeral Home, Corvallis, in charge, and with Rev Willard A. Elkins officiating. Burial will be in the Smith cemetery, which was moved to Monmouth when the cantonment was established. Mrs Yeater was the daughter of Dr B.F. and Jane McClure Owen, pioneer settlers of Oregon who crossed the plains by ox team. The party was in two wagons which converged into one train before the journey was completed. Her mother was a pioneer teacher in Polk and Benton counties. Mrs Yeater was born at Yoncalla, November 13, 1872. She was a child of four when her parents located on a farm near Wren in Benton county. They moved to Polk county and later located near Monroe where she married Columbus Yeater, May 19, 1895. They lived on a farm at Pleasant Hill and also on a farm west of the Antioch hill in Polk county. Some 25 years ago they came to Monmouth to live. Mrs Yeater was a member of and active worker in the Monmouth Christian church. Surviving are her daughter, Mrs Mabel Pollan, Vancouver, Wn; two sisters, Mrs Margaret E. Bain, Corvallis, and Mrs Virginia Chamberlain, Corbett; and three brothers, Lewis P. Owen, Ellensburg, Wn; R.V. Owen, Portland and T.V. Owen, Lebanon. A grandson, James Chatzauk, stationed at Hamilton field, Calif, also survives. Monmouth Herald, Thursday, October 31, 1946, 4:4-5
