OBITUARY: 
Walter Herbert Richards, 79, of Rt 1, Box 188, Monmouth, operator of the Richards store at the Suver Junction on Highway 99W for 34 years, died Saturday, Sept 21, in a Dallas nursing home. He was born in Painted Woods, N Dak, and lived in Prosser, Wash, from 1910 to 1923 when he moved to Corvallis to farm. He moved to Suver in 1947, operating the Richards store until 1959. He was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church in Independence. Survivors include his widow Henrietta; daughter Mrs Alfred Pfeifer of Salem; sister Iva Howard of Wenatchee, Wash; brother Claude of Palm Desert, Calif; half-brother Roy of Wenatchee, Wash; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Services were held at Parmenter Mortuary on Saturday, Sept 21, with interment in Smith Cemetery in Monmouth. Independence Enterprise Herald, Thursday, September 26, 1974, 8:5-6 Services for Walter Herbert Richards, former owner of the Suver store, will be held at 2 pm Saturday in Parmenter Mortuary. The Rev Howard Smith will officiate with burial in Smith Cemetery. Richards died Saturday in a Dallas rest home. He was 79. He was born in Painted Woods, ND, Oct 24, 1894, and moved to Prosser, Wash, in 1910. Seven years later he married and in 1923 moved to the Corvallis area, where he farmed. In 1947 he sold the farm to purchase the Suver Store, which he operated until his 1959 retirement. He belonged to the Independence Calvary Presbyterian Church. Those who wish may make contributions in his name to the Heart Fund. Survivors include the widow, Henrietta; daughter Mrs Alfred Pfeifer of Salem; sister Mrs Iva Howard of Wenatchee, Wash; brothers Claude Richards of Palm Desert, Calif, and Roy Richards, Wenatchee.
