OBITUARY:
Martha Sadie (Swallow) Little, June 19, 1920-February 19, 2012
Monmouth – Martha Sadie Little of February 19, 2012 at the Independence Four Seasons Residential Care Facility at the age of 91. Martha was born to James F. and Anna C. Swallow on June 19, 1920 in Seavey, Minnesota, the 7th of 11 children. Her family lived in many states, but most of her childhood memories are sent in Montana. She met Verle Price Little in Gridley, California and they married October 1937, beginning a marriage that lasted until Verle’s death 71 years later. They raised three children: Ray, Linda and Roger. Neither depression nor war could keep them down or apart for long. Martha was hard-working, spending much of her career as a supervisor at Libby’s cannery. Martha was a world-class grandmother. 12 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren knew they were loved by Grandma every day of their lives. Distance and time constraints proved no match for her zeal for attending games, plays, or special moments of any kind and being an integral part of the lives of her progeny. If it cried, grandma could sooth it. If it ripped, grandma could mend it. Nearly everyone slept nightly in the warm embrace of a Grandma quilt. She passed to her reward on Feb 19, 2012, surrounded by family. She loved and was loved and will be missed. Visitation will be 9am to 9:45 am with Funeral Service at 10am both at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Monmouth, Oregon. Interment will follow at Smith cemetery in Monmouth. Arrangements entrusted to Farnstrom Mortuary.
