1880 DAKOTA CENSUS - Sam Bennett, age 27, occupation farmer, b. Pennsylvania, is enumerated with wife Mary E., age 29, b. Indiana, along with Eunice J., age 5, b. Wisconsin, Martha J., age 4, b. Wisconsin, and N. G., male, age 1, b. Wisconsin. 
[Note - they are enumerated next door to Samuel's parents, N.[Nathan] G. and Elizabeth Bennett. Also enumerated with N. G. and Elizabeth Bennett is their son, [brother of Samuel] Silas D., who is also buried in Hart-Riggs]  
1900 SD CENSUS - Samuel C. Bennett, age 47, b. Feb 1853 in Pennsylvania, is enumerated with his wife of 26 years, Mary E., age 49, mother of 4, b. May 1857 in Indiana, along with Mattie J., age 23, b. Jun 1876 in Wisconsin, Jack G., age 21, b. Aug 1878 in Wisconsin, George M., age 18, b. South Dakota, and Lizzie M., age 16, b. Nov 1883 in South Dakota.
1920 OR CENSUS - Samuel Bennett, age 66, b. Pennsylvania, is enumerated with wife Mary, age 53, b. Missouri.

OBITUARY: 
Samuel C. Bennett, a resident of Independence for about 15 years, died in the Salem hospital last Friday evening, where he had been taken for treatment the previous week. The funeral was held Monday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. R. R. Riggs, at Bridgeport, and interment was made in the cemetery there, the pastor of the Dallas Christian church officiating. 
Mr. Bennett is survived by a widow, two sons and two daughters. The daughters are Mrs. Riggs and Mrs. Lizzie Skuzie of Holden, Oregon, and the sons are George and John Bennett, both of Independence. 
Mr. Bennett was a little past 67 years old. The family resided in North Dakota before coming here.
