Tom Creelan, Nov. 6, 1950-July 18, 2002
Tom Creelan of Monmouth died after a three-year battle with metastatic kidney cancer. He was 51. He was born in Akron, Ohio and attended Ohio State University in Columbus, where he met his wife, Pam, in 1969. 
He graduated with a master of fine arts degree in 1974. 
In 1976, he moved to a 22-acre homestead on Fishback Hill near Monmouth. He taught at Oregon College of Education and Chemeketa Community College, where he also directed the art gallery. Tom enjoyed writing poetry and playing musical instruments, including the wooden flute, penny whistle and bodhran. 
He was preceded in death by his father, Gerard. He is survived by his wife, Pamela; sons, Benjamin and Tyler; mother, Mary; and brothers, John and Paul. A gathering of friends will be held next month at Mission Mill Museum in Salem. Farnstrom Mortuary in Independence is handling the arrangements.
