1900 OR CENSUS - Lewis Hannum, age 73, occupation farmer, b. Nov 1827 in Massachusetts, is enumerated with Mary E., age 63, mother of 7 children 5 of whom are living at the time of the census, b. Nov 1826 in Missouri, along with Julius, age 41, single, occupation farmer, b. Oregon.

"Born in Hampton County, Massachusetts, in 1827; moved to Ohio in 1839, to Michigan in 1844, and came to Oregon in 1852, and settled in Polk County.  Present residence, Luckiamute Valley, and occupation, carpenter and farmer. He married Mary Ritner in Oregon in 1856, and thier children's names are - Julius, Sarah H., Andrew, Ann, Lewis L., Eva, and Una."

OBITUARY: 
Death of L.L. Hannum. 
He was born in 1827 and died February 8, 1901, aged 73 years. In 1852 he crossed the plains to Oregon Territory, and was located at Fort Hoskins in Kings Valley for several years. In 1856 he was married to Miss Mary E., daughter of John and Sarah Ritner. To them were born three sons and four daughters, of whom five are still living. 
About 45 years ago he bought part of the Aldrich donation claim near McTimmonds valley and lived there the balance of his life. In 1886 he joined the Evangelical church at Lewisville and remained a faithful and consistent member. He was once county commsissioner and was in all respects an excellent citizen. President Poling, of Dallas college, preached his funeral last Sunday and a long procession of sorrowing friends saw him laid away in the Edwards graveyard at Pedee.

Lewis Lyman Hannum was born in the State of Massachusetts, November 16, 1827, and died at his home near Lewisville, in this county, February 8, 1901, being 73 years, 2 months and 22 days old. 
In the year 1849, at the age of 22, he went to Michigan, and three years later he crossed the plains and the Rocky mountains to seek his fortune in the Territory of Oregon. He came to Fort Hoskins, in Kings Valley, where he labored for several years, and in 1856 he married Mary E. Ritner, a daughter of John and Sarah Ritner, with whom he lived happily until his death. To this union there were born three sons and four daughters, one son and one daughter having died in childhood. In 1856, he purchased the west end of the Aldrich donation land claim, upon which he lived with his family until death claimed him. 
During the summer of 1886 her embraced the Christian religion and united with the Evangelical church at Lewisville and remained a consistent and faithful member. 
Although following the occupation of a farmer during most of his days in Oregon, he was a skilled carpenter and mechanic and was one of the head workmen in the building of the old county courthouse. He served one or more terms as Commissioner of Polk County. 
The funeral was conducted at his late residence by President Poling, of Dallas college, who spoke from 1 Cor. 15:55-58. Interment took place in the Edwards graveyard, near Pedee schoolhouse.
